Learn how to create characters for comic books and animation with Estrela Lourenço in this three-part course running from 11am-2.30pm on Nov. 22nd, 29th and Dec. 6th.
Classes will take place on site at The Edge Dublin [Eir Code: D24 K07Y].
Students can bring their own equipment if they wish but all materials will be provided on site.
This three-part course will cover the following:
- Students will understand the importance of a back story and the principles of design that can help a character to stand out - caricature, construction, rhythm, gesture, silhouette and volume in character design.
- The tutor will explain these principles visually, looking at a series of examples from the comics and animation world, as well as providing class materials for students to bring home to study and exercises to practise.
- Students will be assigned two different tasks which they can choose from: to block a page of sequential art based on script provided or provide a model sheet plus pose sheet for a character to be used on a comic or animation medium.
The course will be delivered by Estrela Lourenço who has worked for 14 years in the animation industry as a character animator, animation director, episodic director for TV series and award winning storyboard artist for shows such as “The Amazing World of Gumball” for Cartoon Network, “Wander Over Yonder” for Disney XD, “Danger Mouse” for BBC, “Pony Life” and “BotBots - Transformers” for Hasbro and “Silly Sundays” for Cartoon Saloon.
